Mission Santa Inés Spanish Choir 7 pm Saturday - Coro Guadalupe
The choir began in 1967 when Elvira and Salomon Rojas formed a choir to sing the first mañanitas to the Virgin of Guadalupe on December 12. After we started to sing and celebrate Mass in Spanish once a month between weeks. The priests were coming from Santa Maria and Goleta because in those years the mission of Santa Inés had no services in Spanish.
Through these 47 years, people have passed on a great talent and we are very grateful to them because you always learn something from each person.
We are very committed to this ministry and we have to be strong in spirit and faith, not only to praise God not also to help parishioners.
The beginnings of this choir was difficult, since we did not have a musical director to help vocalize voice singing or playing. It is worth mentioning a very important partners to this chorus integration, Mr. and Mrs. John and Teresa Phillips. John was our first musical director. With knowledge of music, the choir was improving and with help from God, John still remains with us.
The choir is composed of several members, among them are four of Elvira and Salomon's children and a grandson, who is even younger. A few years ago, their son Pablo joined the chorus. He is now our musical director and pianist.
Choir 7pm always has its doors open for people who feel the call of God. If you feel the call in your heart to join our choir, you can speak to any member of the choir after every mass. For more information you can call Elvira Rojas or Pablo Rojas at 688-3179. Practices are Fridays at 7:30 PM in the conference room of the Mission Santa Inés.
