Community Involvement

Parishioners at Old Mission Santa Inés reach out to many citizens of the Santa Ynez Valley and surrounding communities in a variety of ways.  Our Service and Community Care and Pastoral Care Ministries are called to serve and assist parishioners as well as the community. They are supported by our parish office and facilities and grounds teams that include many parish volunteers.

Our beautiful mission is host to many individuals and organizations who visit the mission or use the mission grounds for their event. Each year, we host many visitors from around the world and the United States. Visitors come to tour the mission grounds and buildings and some join us for the celebration of daily or weekend Mass. We also host weddings for couples from throughout the central coast, United States and world.

Through our Prision Ministry, our priests regularly visit the Lompoc and Los Prietos prisons to hold confession as well as Mass for inmates. Our Hospitality and Care Ministry support the Los Prietos Boys Camp by providing books for fathers to read on video to their children through the Baby Elmo Book Drive. This ministry also hosts a community event evening featuring the Los Prietos "Drama Kings" who offer their testimony of how they have turned their life around.

Our Hospitality and Care Ministry not only provides meals for the sick and bereaved, they regularly visit residents of Atterdag Village and Friendship House in Solvang.  The St. Vincent de Paul Society helps those in need in the community in a variety of ways throughout the year. St. Vincent de Paul Society often partner with other churches in the Santa Ynez Valley and with People Helping People to help those in need.

Local community groups use our buildings and grounds for a variety of community programs and events.  People Helping People uses our parish hall every other week to distribute food to local families in need. English and Spanish Alcoholics Anonymous groups regularly hold meetings at the mission.

Community events that have been held or staged on the mission grounds include:

We look forward to more opportunities to serve our community.  Please contact the Parish Office if you would like to discuss an opportunity.
