Mission Book Club

The Mission Book Club was formed in 2008 by a group of parishioners who were interested in reading fiction and nonfiction books and discussing them from a Catholic Christian based perspective in a very informal, comfortable, friendly environment. Since that time, the group has read and discussed an extensive list of religious and nonreligious books.

Each meeting a book selected by the group the previous month is discussed. Attendees bring suggestions for the next book to read. The group then selects a book to read during the next month. In addition to discussion, the group enjoys this as a time of fellowship with one another.

Below is a partial list of books that the group has read and discussed:

  • Death Comes for the Archbishop by Will Cather
  • Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared M. Diamond
  • My Cousin Rachel by Daphne du Maurier
  • Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier
  • Killing Jesus by Bill O'reilly
  • The Future Church by John L. Allen Jr.
  • The Romanov Sisters by Helen Rapporport
  • Ben Franklin: An American Life by Walter Issacson
  • The Brass Dolphin by Joanna Trollope
  • Tortilla Curtain by TC Boyle
  • Unbroken by Laura Hildenbrand

The group is open to women and men of any age and to Catholics and nonCatholics.

The Mission Book Club meets monthly (except December) on the 3rd Tuesday at 6:30 PM in Room C.  If you are interested in joining the group, attend one of their meetings or contact Kathy Airey, the group leader.
