Sunday's Gospel Reflection

The Way Through Our Doubts: “Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?”
Jesus said to Thomas, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” (John 14:5–6)

There is something deeply human in Thomas’s question. It comes from a place we all know well—a place of uncertainty, confusion, and even fear. At different moments in our lives, we find ourselves asking the same question: Where am I going? What is the way forward?

Human frailty is part of our journey. We do not always have clear answers. Life brings moments of disruption—loss of a loved one, a broken relationship, a serious illness, or unexpected trials. In those moments, it is natural to question, to doubt, even to struggle with God.

But Thomas teaches us something important: he brings his doubt directly to Jesus. He does not hide it. He does not walk away. He asks sincerely.

And Jesus responds not with a map or a set of instructions, but with Himself:
“I am the way and the truth and the life.”

Faith does not mean having everything figured out. It means trusting in the One who does. It means surrendering to a higher wisdom, even when the path is unclear. When we cannot see the way, we are invited to walk with the One who is the Way.

In our moments of doubt, let us not be afraid. Let us be honest, like Thomas. Let us bring our questions to Christ. For in Him, we do not just find answers—we find direction, meaning, and life itself.

In Christ,
Fr. Lijoy Jose, OFM Cap.

  God makes the birds sing,
Raising the sun over the night,
So you can share your knowledge with much delight.
Strive to be like God, glorious and majestic,
And you'll never be wrong and remain realistic.
You can measure understanding with quizzes and tests,
But God's understanding triumphs over the rest.
I fear nothing like a lion,
It is the Lord's guidance I rely on.
I know the difference between right and wrong,
His judgment will always prove strong.
