Sunday's Gospel Reflection
One of our greatest temptations of our time is to judge too quickly—to separate the "good" from the "bad" and to wish that God would simply remove everything imperfect. In the Gospel, the owner of the field tells his servants to let both wheat and weeds grow together until the harvest. His concern is not only for removing the weeds but, above all, for preserving the wheat. Our world, our families, our Church, and even our own hearts are fields where wheat and weeds grow together—where faith, love, and generosity exist alongside weakness, division, and sin.
God sees differently. His patience is not indifference. It is mercy. God knows that hearts can change, sinners can repent, relationships can be healed, and grace can transform even the most difficult situations. This message should fill us with hope because each of us carries both wheat and weeds within our own hearts. The Kingdom of God begins within us as a tiny mustard seed and as a little yeast mixed into dough. It begins in small ways as a heartfelt prayer, a kind word, a family gathered together, or faithful participation at Sunday Mass. In God's hands, these simple acts become powerful instruments of transformation. As we continue our spiritual journey, let us resist the temptation to judge others harshly or become discouraged by the weeds we see around us—or within ourselves. Instead, let us trust in God's patient love, cultivate the wheat of faith, hope, and charity, and become small but faithful seeds of His Kingdom in our homes, our parish, and our community.
