A May 31 blood drive in support of Jim Usher was so successful, his family, friends and United Blood Services have decided to do it all over again June 23 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Old Mission Santa Ines. Usher required over 200 units of blood during a liver transplant last month at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
The May blood drive came about after Usher's mother-in-law, Carol Money, told her friend, JoAnne Taylor, during a service at the mission, about his surgery. Both women are active volunteers there. Knowing that Usher had only survived because of the availability of blood, they wanted to help others in need by arranging for a drive. 40 donors responded.
"We were overwhelmed by the response and turnout of so many giving people in our Valley." Money said.
Ushers wife, Roxeanne, is a math teacher at Santa Ynez Valley Charter School. Their two children are students at Santa Ynez Valley Union High School. Usher is now recovering at home.
For an appointment, call Patty Snyder at 688-0648 or JoAnn Taylor at 688-3478.
