Welcome from Fr. Matt

Welcome to Old Mission Santa Inés. I am Father Matt Elshoff, the Pastor of Old Mission Santa Inés. Fr. James Johnson is our Associate Pastor and he also serves the Hispanic Ministries. We belong to the Capuchin Franciscan order.

Our parish church is located on Mission Drive in Solvang, California in the historic Mission Santa Inés, a national historic landmark.

The Mission has been administered by the Capuchin Franciscans since 1924. Our parish plays a central role in the spiritual and social life of the Santa Ynez Valley. We are an active parish church of English and Hispanic ministries serving many families in the Santa Ynez valley.  Parishioners support a range of English and Hispanic ministries including:

We celebrate mass in both English and Spanish. English masses are held:

  • Daily at 8:00 AM
  • Saturday Vigil Mass at 5:00 PM
  • Sunday at 8:00 AM, 9:30 AM, 11:00 AM
and 5:00 PM is our Youth Mass

Hispanic masses are held on:

  • Saturday at 7:00 PM
  • Sunday at 12:30 PM

Reconciliation times are:

  • Saturday at 4:00 – 4:45 PM in English
  • Saturday at 6:15 – 6:45 PM in Spanish

We also have several prayer ministries that meet throughout the week and month.

Our mission was founded on September 17, 1804 by Father Estevan Tapis and is named in honor of St. Agnes or Santa Inés in Spanish. Our mission has been beautifully preserved in its original style through the restoration efforts of many parishioners, people in the community and visitors. We recently celebrated our 210 year anniversary with a Founding Day mass sung in English, Spanish and Latin

Our mission is known as the “Mission of the Passes” as it is located in the Santa Ynez Valley that is surrounded to the south by the Santa Ynez mountains and to the east by the San Raphael mountains.

Our museum has rich collection of paintings, statuary, vestments, manuscripts, and artifacts. Our museum gift store, located next to the museum, has a great selection of gift items, religious articles, jewelry, Bibles, books, Seraphic Mass Cards and many other items.

Every day we welcome visitors from around the country and around the world. We hope that you will visit us soon to explore Old Mission Santa Inés “The Hidden Gem”.  We invite you to join us to celebrate mass.

Everyone is most welcome!
